As you watch the dark, churning water, you notice that the movement is starting to change. Rather than raging like a mighty river, the water begins swirling like a whirlpool…
At first the eddy is small, but as you watch the vortex grows. Debris from the water’s surface is pulled toward the center. Everything that is sucked in disappears.
You pick up a stick from the shore and toss it toward the vortex and are alarmed when the water reaches into the air like an arm and snatches the stick down, down, down.
The time for watching is over, but you know that if you let panic control you you’ll end up lost or worse.
