EDITOR’S NOTE: NOSTALGIA

CO-EDITORS-IN-CHIEF MELISSA ROTERT & KRISTIN HOULIHAN

I found myself desperately grasping for the past as my children pushed forward into their futures. Nostalgia became a comfort as I braced myself for the reality that they were growing up, and in my oldest son’s case, moving out.

With the country crumbling around many of us in the US, and the ripple effect it’s had in many other places, I’ve noticed others retreating to the safety of the past as well.

Things were better…
Remember when…
I miss…

A longing for the familiar is a global coping mechanism. And though our pasts may not always be pleasant, there is still a sense of control when we look backward that allows us to rewrite history, or at the very least, know we’ve survived.

At Epistemic Literary we asked for your interpretation of Nostalgia and received A LOT of submissions, confirming for me the importance of our theme at this moment in time.

As always, thank you for reading, thank you for supporting, and thank you for being part of our Epistemic family.
