DISTANCE

Written by Sam “One-Wheel” O’Neil
Three hours,
Two hundred miles,
6 gallons,
19 dollars separate us.

Sometimes the cold and lonely expanse
between us feels insurmountable.
Sometimes the night seems longer and darker
and the day shines more dimly
when you are there.

When you are here
my pulse pounds and
my blood thaws
as life
courses
back.

I count down the months until I can
count up the moments we spend together
inseparable, as one, united.
