Written by Lilly Kate Diaz
I see trees on my way
to work and back home.
The branches of trees,
with their arms reaching out,
show their cooling shadows.
Patches of light shine through—
Their warmth falls
onto my body,
my clothes, and
spill onto the concrete.
I wait for someone
on the train’s platform on my way
to work and back home.
Someone I meet
in the sunlight through the trees.

LKD is a born and raised South Central poet. They have been writing poems since reading a nursery rhyme book in 1st grade. LKD explores themes about relationships of all kinds: familial, romantic, platonic, and with one’s self. Poetry for them is an outlet to express what they can’t in person.
