SATURDAY

Written by Michelle Nott
Chores done
math problems solved
lunch with Gran
shopping with Dad

I kick off my shoes.

My bare feet seek
the feel of grass,
tickles between my toes,
squishes of damp dirt,

to be still.

My fingers tingle
as my arms outstretch
toward branches and leaves
not eager to fall but

to be still.

Summer stretches on
even through shorter
days. My thoughts wander
with possibilities.

Pebble skipping
in the creek, fishing,
hide-n-seek, or slide
into the hammock.

Why

only choose one?
