Written by Shaun Jex
I don’t know how to answer
Your questions about God
Or the meaning of it all
But I can say
That my muscles ache
And sweat stings my eyes
As I walk
this dirt path
Between wildflowers and pine
Yes…
I could proclaim the miracle
Of a cool breeze
Caressing my cheek
Beneath the sun’s relentless gaze
Or meditate
On the hymn of a ground squirrel
Sounding his barbaric yawp
Across alpine meadows
I could testify of burning lungs
That gulp for oxygen
Or the way a drop of water
Soothes chapped lips
Like a loving mother
Kissing a fevered brow
I could stand at the edge
Of this rocky outcrop
And proclaim it all
To the glacial valleys below
But the trail goes on
And the hour is late
So, I place one foot
In front of the other
And continue on my way
.
